Since the time of its conception, thousands of women have chosen to undergo breast reconstruction.  Breast reconstruction surgery is a procedure that can help any woman rebuild their breasts and self-esteem after they have experienced various types of trauma or injury to their breasts or after they have beaten breast cancer.  Any woman who has had the shape of her breasts altered for any reason can turn to breast reconstruction for aid.  However, before you personally undergo this type of surgery, you should seriously consider the costs associated with this procedure.

The cost of breast reconstruction, like many other plastic surgery options, can vary greatly depending on several factors.  As with all surgical procedures, you must take the surgeon fee, facility fee and anesthesia fee into account.  These fees and costs will differ depending on location and other factors.  Women who are opting for this surgery will also need to make a choice of what materials or implants their breasts will be reconstructed with.  Silicone and saline breast implants are the two main prosthesis options or a woman may choose, in some cases, to have the surgeon reconstruct her breasts with her own bodily tissues.  Surgeon's fees will be the most expensive fees out of these fore mentioned factors.  Both the skill of the surgeon and the amount of reconstruction they will perform will dictate their fees.  Board certified surgeons with a background in breast reconstruction will be preferred.  On average, a board certified surgeon will charge around three thousand dollars for implants alone, four thousand dollars for tissue expansion, six thousand dollars for a back flap procedure, seven thousand dollars for a TRAM flap procedure, ten thousand dollars for a microsurgical free flap procedure and about twelve hundred or more for nipple reconstruction.  The more reconstruction you need, the more expensive the costs will become.

Along with the cost of the reconstruction surgery, there will be fees for facility, an anesthesiologist, anesthesia and the cost of implants if they are needed.  Women with medical insurance will find that their costs can be mostly covered, especially if they are recovering from cancer.  In fact, the 1998 Federal Breast Reconstruction Law indicates that all health insurance companies must cover the costs of reconstructing the breasts during a mastectomy.  Women without any health insurance coverage will find that a majority of cosmetic surgeons will offer them some sort of financing options.  For additional information contact our Brisbane cosmetic surgery office.
