Dr. Richardson specialises in breast augmentation surgery, with a reputation for exceptional results. Breast augmentation surgery is a life-changing procedure that can help women regain or improve their self-confidence and self-image. The procedure is ideal for those women who are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts, experience asymmetry, or would just like to enhance their natural features to feel more comfortable in their own skin.

If you are considering breast augmentation and understand the value of a skilled, experienced plastic surgeon, then we encourage you to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. Richardson today.

The Breast Augmentation Consultation

During your breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Richardson will discuss with you your desired shape and size, and make any modifications in line with his professional opinion. He will measure the dimensions of your breasts and have you try on a number of trial implants to get an idea of sizing. You are welcome to borrow any of these implant sizes to help with your decision. Vectra 3D imaging is also part of the consultation and gives you the option to view photorealistic images of what you will look like with different varieties of implants.

We will also discuss your surgical options, the operation, recovery, as well as the risks associated with the procedure. We are here to answer any questions you may have and ensure that you feel completely prepared to make a decision.

Silicone vs. Saline Breast Implants

Dr. Philip Richardson offers both saline and silicone breast implants. The choice of implant will depend on your particular lifestyle, medical history, expectations, and desired appearance, and can be determined in your consultation with Dr. Richardson. Each type of breast implant has unique attributes, and it’s best to go over the pros and cons of both before deciding on which is right for you.

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants are filled with a silicone gel that closely matches the feel and consistency of natural breast tissue. For this reason, it is preferred by many women over saline breast implants. Though there are some unique complications that can arise in rare instances, such as silicone leakage, and these potential risks should be taken into consideration, silicone breast implants have been proven to be both safe and effective.

Saline Breast Implants

Our patients have diverse wishes, and we like to provide them with various options; as such, we are happy to offer saline breast implants to our patients. These implants consist of a silicone outer shell filled with an inert saline solution.

It should be noted that saline implants can ripple beneath the skin and do not feel as natural as silicone implants because of the nature of the saline solution.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

We perform breast augmentation using general anaesthetic. The surgery involves the placement of a breast implant either behind the breast tissue or under the chest wall muscle. Once inserted, the breast implants will push or help lift the breast tissue forward, making the breasts appear larger and fuller.

Risks

As with any surgery, there are risks involved with breast augmentation. The first to consider is a possible adverse response to the general anaesthetic, bruising, swelling, excessive bleeding, infection, and scarring. Other risks include capsular contracture, fluid build-up around the implant, changes in nipple sensation, implant leakage, rippling of the implant, and asymmetry. Serious adverse effects, however, are very uncommon. Dr. Richardson does everything possible to prevent and treat negative side effects.

After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Patients should allow one to two weeks for recovery after breast augmentation surgery before returning to work. Our nurses will contact you the day after surgery to make sure there are no complications. We will schedule post-operative check-ups for one week, six weeks, six months, and twelve months after surgery (each of these appointments is covered by the original surgery fee). A post-operative bra is given to patients to wear for the first six weeks. This surgical garment supports the breasts and promotes proper healing. It is recommended that patients refrain from driving for at least two weeks after undergoing breast augmentation surgery and avoid partaking in rigorous exercise for at least six weeks.
