Breast Lift (Mastopexy) in Brisbane, Queensland

Overview

Breast sagging, which can appear after pregnancy or dramatic weight loss, can cause a woman to develop a negative body image. Many women choose to have a breast lift to improve their self-esteem. Breast lift surgery (mastopexy), which is offered in Queensland at Brisbane Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, can improve the contour of the breasts, increase firmness, raise the position of the nipples, and reduce the size of the areolas. Our highly trained plastic surgeon, Dr. Philip Richardson, customises the breast lift procedure to suit each patient. For women who would like to increase the size of or add volume to their breasts in addition to raising them to a higher, more attractive position on the chest, Dr. Richardson can combine the breast lift procedure with breast augmentation.

The Surgery

We typically perform breast lift, or mastopexy, at our Brisbane practice using a general anaesthetic. Dr. Richardson can complete a mastopexy procedure using a number of methods, including the Wise pattern technique and minimal scarring techniques such as the Lejour and Benelli methods. Dr. Richardson discusses each of these options in more detail with his patients before surgery.

Risks

As with any surgical procedure, the risks of mastopexy include a negative reaction to the general anaesthetic, infection, severe bleeding, bruising, swelling, and keloid scarring. Other risks that are specific to the breast lift procedure include asymmetry, loss of sensation to the nipple or breast skin, and bottoming out of the breast. Patients should note, however, that these effects are not common, and our highly experienced surgeon does everything possible to ensure a positive outcome.

After Surgery

Our nurse contacts patients each day after breast lift surgery (mastopexy) at our practice in Queensland to make sure that there are no problems. Additionally, Dr. Richardson sees patients at regular intervals after surgery in order to check on their progress (the cost of these visits is included in the initial operation fee). Patients should wear the crop-top given to them for the first six weeks following surgery to ensure proper support and healing. Driving should be avoided for two weeks after surgery and rigorous exercise should be avoided for at least six weeks.
