Blepharoplasty or upper and lower eyelid surgery is offered at Brisbane Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery. This procedure reduces the tired eye look, removes upper eyelid skin and fat obscuring vision, and tightens any laxity of the lower lid for a more youthful appearance.
For upper eyelid surgery at our Brisbane practice, an ellipse of skin and underlying fat is excised and the skin is stitched back together. For lower eyelids, the skin is lifted from the lower lid and the fat is removed. The skin is then redraped and the appropriate amount of excess skin is removed. Any laxity within the lower lid is corrected by a tightening procedure.
The risks associated with blepharoplasty, though uncommon, include infection, an adverse reaction to the anaesthetic, temporary blurred vision, swelling at the corner of the eyelids, eyelash hair loss, asymmetry, and scarring. In extremely rare cases, individuals may be unable to fully close their eyes after surgery, or ectropion could occur in which the lower lids may be turned outward and require further surgery.
Bruising and swelling are common after blepharoplasty and may last for a couple weeks. Brisbane plastic surgeon, Dr. Richardson recommends putting cold packs on the surgical area to reduce any bruising or swelling. Stitches will be removed within a week of eyelid surgery.

Offered at our Brisbane practice, an injectable treatment, can be used to paralyze facial muscles in order to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles such as those located around the eyes, on the forehead, and in the creases near the nose.
Brisbane plastic and cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Richardson will explain the risks of these injections before treatment. These risks include temporary bruising and swelling, which can be reduced with cold packs, and although extremely rare, an allergic reaction is also possible.
Collagen injections, offered by Dr. Richardson, provide a temporary solution for scar and wrinkle reduction or lip enhancement. A protein made from cattle, collagen injections can cause allergic reactions in some people. For this reason, an allergy test is usually performed a month before treatment. Results typically last between six months and a year. However, some people absorb collagen into their skin rapidly, making the results less effective.
There are other injectable treatments for wrinkle reduction. Since some of these are not animal-based, allergy testing is not necessary before treatment. Therefore, treatment can be performed immediately and the results are instantaneous. Redness, swelling, and itching are normal reactions to treatment and will typically disappear within a few days.
