Male Breast Reduction for Gynaecomastia in Brisbane, Queensland

Overview

Gynaecomastia, or male breast development, affects men of all ages and can be a source of embarrassment and low self-esteem. To help improve the body image of men with gynaecomastia, we offer male breast reduction at our Brisbane, Queensland plastic surgery practice. During the male breast reduction procedure, our skilled surgeon, Dr. Philip Richardson, removes excess breast tissue to create a firmer, flatter, more masculine chest contour.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery

General anaesthetic is normally administered before male breast reduction surgery so that the patient will not experience any discomfort during the procedure. Dr. Richardson then excises the excess breast tissue. The remaining tissue is reshaped and held together with internal stitches.

Risks

The risks involved with male breast reduction include those associated with any surgery, such as an adverse reaction to general anaesthesia, swelling, bruising, infection, excessive bleeding, and prominent scarring. Additional risks pertaining specifically to gynaecomastia surgery include an inadequate reduction of breast tissue, an excessive reduction of tissue leaving a depressed area under and around the nipple, asymmetry, and loose skin. Although patients should be aware of the possible risks of any surgical procedure, they can rest assured that Dr. Richardson is a skilled surgeon who does everything in his power to ensure the safety of his patients.

After Gynaecomastia Surgery

A pressure dressing must be worn for the first five days after gynaecomastia surgery. At Brisbane Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, a nurse contacts patients daily after the procedure to ensure that they are recovering properly. Post-operative appointments are scheduled for one week, six weeks, and six months after surgery (each of these periodic check-ups is covered by the initial operation fee). Most patients are back to their normal routine within a couple weeks.
