For many people, the issue of excess fat and skin on the Abdomen region, and sagging muscles that have not been improved by diet and exercise can cause significant discomfort and emotional strain. The physical aspect of the issue can often be alleviated through Abdominoplasty. Lifestyle factors such as pregnancy can cause the muscles and skin to stretch to a point where they do no return to normal, particularly after a caesarean. In older patients, the loss of skin elasticity, loss of muscle tone, and even mild obesity are contributors.

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen, and to tighten muscles of the abdominal wall. Abdominoplasty is not a surgical treatment for being overweight. Obese individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone all forms of body contouring surgery until they have been able to maintain their weight loss. Abdominoplasty is not a weight loss procedure.

There are a variety of techniques Dr. Richardson may employ for abdominoplasty. The procedure can be combined with other forms of body-contouring, including suction-assisted lipectomy, or performed at the same time with other elective surgeries.

If possible, your plastic surgeon will make the main incision under the “bikini line” so that the scar is as concealed as possible. However, this cannot always be done in every patient and usually depends on the extent of the surgery. A complete tummy tuck usually takes approximately 2-3 hours. This may be lengthened if liposuction is also performed. During the procedure, incisions will be made to lift the skin and underlying fat free from the abdominal muscles, and the muscles are surgically tightened with stitching into a normal position. Excess skin and fat is removed and the navel is repositioned.

We offer a lifetime follow-up guarantee with zero out-of-pocket expenses to ensure we are providing ongoing exceptional care to our patients. Following the procedure, you will experience some degree of swelling, bruising, pain, areas of numbness, and later  itching, redness, and thickening of scars. You may be sent home with drains which are usually removed after one or two days. Dr. Richardson and the nurses will provide you with detailed information regarding showering, wound dressings, and caring for yourself. You will likely be provided with a support garment to wear during the healing period and will be worn for however long Dr. Richardson recommends. You should avoid strenuous activity, smoking, or drinking for a few weeks following surgery. Gentle exercise such as walking will assist healing. Healing is usually complete within a few months.
