Gynaecomastia Treatment through Male Breast Reduction

Gynaecomastia, or male breast development, affects men of all ages and can be a source of embarrassment and low self-esteem. To help improve the body image of men with gynecomastia, we offer male breast reduction as a form of safe and effective gynaecomastia treatment at our Brisbane, Queensland plastic surgery practice. During the male breast reduction procedure, our skilled surgeon, Dr. Philip Richardson, removes excess breast tissue to create a firmer, flatter, more masculine chest contour.

If you are self-conscious about the appearance of your chest due to excess breast tissue and you feel that you could benefit from gynaecomastia treatment, we invite you to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. Phil Richardson at our plastic surgery practice serving the metropolitan Sunshine Coast and Brisbane areas today.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery

General anaesthetic is normally administered before male breast reduction surgery so that the patient will not experience any discomfort during gynaecomastia treatment at Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Richardson then excises the excess breast tissue. The remaining tissue is reshaped to create a flatter, more masculine chest contour and held together with internal stitches.

Risks

The risks involved with male breast reduction include those associated with any surgery, such as an adverse reaction to general anaesthetic, swelling, bruising, infection, excessive bleeding, and prominent scarring. Additional risks pertaining specifically to surgical gynecomastia treatment include an inadequate reduction of breast tissue, an excessive reduction of tissue leaving a depressed area under and around the nipple, asymmetry, and loose skin. Although patients should be aware of the possible risks of any surgical procedure, they can rest assured that Dr. Richardson is a skilled surgeon who does everything in his power to ensure the safety of his patients.

After Gynaecomastia Surgery

A pressure garment must be worn for the first five days while recovering from surgical gynecomastia treatment. At Brisbane Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, our nurses contact patients the day after the procedure to ensure that they are recovering properly. Post-operative appointments are scheduled for one week, six weeks, and six months after surgery (each of these periodic check-ups is covered by the initial operation fee). Most patients are able to return to their normal routine within a couple of weeks.
