Breast Fat Transfer Australia

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

All surgical procedures have risks. You should be aware of these risks prior to booking an appointment and acknowledge these risks prior to undergoing breast fat transfer in Australia. There are risks that are both related to general surgical procedures, as well as specific breast fat transfer risks.

Some risks of general surgical procedures include:

  • Wound separation or delayed healing
  • Inflammation and infection
  • Sore throat
  • Painful or infected intravenous line site
  • Other anaesthetic complications
  • Sensitivity or allergy to dressings and tape
  • Scarring
  • Unsatisfactory result
  • Asymmetry
  • Post-operative fatigue/depression
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Allergic reaction
  • Chronic pain
  • Stroke, heart attack, cardiac arrhythmias

One of the most important considerations for patients undergoing fat transfer is the longevity of results. It is highly likely that patients will require multiple surgeries to obtain noticeable and long-lasting results. The efficacy of treatment and metabolising of fat is dependent on patient-specific factors outside of the surgeon’s control. It’s extremely important that patients understand the risk of the fat metabolising in either the short or long-term. The fat transfer fee does not include re-operation costs.

All of these complications can occur, however they are rare in otherwise fit and healthy patients. Alongside the general risks of surgical procedures are the specific breast fat transfer risks.

  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Liposuction risks
  • Dissatisfaction with liposuction site
  • Limited retention of transferred fat
  • Fat necrosis, calcification, cysts
  • Fat reabsorption
  • Interference with mammograms
