What is breast augmentation mammoplasty?

Breast augmentation mammoplasty, also known as breast augmentation, breast enlargement surgery or breast implant surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance breast size, shape, and symmetry. This procedure is commonly sought by individuals looking to increase breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss, achieve a more proportionate or balanced figure, or to improve overall breast contour. The surgery involves the use of breast implants to alter the size and shape of the breasts and may help improve symmetry, achieve a rounded and fuller upper pole of the breast, increase fullness and projection, and address congenital conditions such as tuberous breasts. There are many reasons an individual may choose to have a breast augmentation surgery, encompassing both genetic and lifestyle factors. For instance, some patients may be born with congenital conditions such as asymmetry or tuberous breasts. Other examples can be as simple as a lack of development during puberty, or dissatisfaction with size and shape. Because of the many reasons women choose to undergo breast augmentation mammoplasty, there is no one-size-fits-all treatment plan.

Whether you are seeking a proportionate and subtle appearance or a noticeable difference, our surgeons are able to tailor their surgical technique and implant choice, with a commitment to always using best practice safety measures in fully-accredited hospitals in Brisbane.

The best surgical approach for breast augmentation will depend on the patient’s personal circumstances and customised to suit the patient’s individual needs and natural breast anatomy, all of which will be discussed during a consultation. This tailored approach ensures the breast augmentation process aligns with the patient’s aesthetic goals and desired outcomes, while addressing any specific concerns the patient may have.

As with any surgical procedure, breast augmentation carries potential risks and complications that need to be considered. It is important to consult with an experienced specialist plastic surgeon to discuss the best treatment options, expected outcomes, what to expect during recovery and cover any potential risks associated with breast augmentation surgery, including how these will be managed in the case complications do arise.

Our experienced Specialist Plastic Surgeons provide personalised consultations to create a tailored plan that is best suited to achieve the patient’s goals.

Why consider breast augmentation surgery?

The choice to undergo breast augmentation surgery is a personal decision that can be driven by medical, aesthetic or lifestyle factors, and the decision to proceed should be a well informed and considered process.

Breast augmentation surgery is a highly customised procedure and is tailored to each patient’s body type, preferences, and desired results, ensuring that the outcomes are anatomically balanced and proportionate.

Breast augmentation is a commonly performed procedure for individuals looking to enhance their breast size, shape, and overall proportions. Common reasons individuals may consider breast augmentation surgery include:

  • Increase Breast Volume & Shape – Many individuals seek breast implants to increase breast fullness, improve symmetry, or achieve a more proportionate figure.

  • Restoring Lost Volume – Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or aging can lead to a loss of breast volume, which implants can help restore.

  • Correcting Breast Asymmetry – If one breast is noticeably smaller than the other, augmentation can create a more balanced appearance.

  • Cleavage definition: Individuals with naturally small breast volume often find that breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery can help alter the shape and appearance of cleavage. By increasing breast volume and projection, the gap between the breasts can be reduced and defined.
  • Address Tuberous breasts: Breast augmentation can help address and correct tuberous breast deformity through the use of breast implants.
  • Reconstruction After Surgery – Breast augmentation can be part of breast reconstruction following mastectomy or injury.

Am I a suitable candidate for breast augmentation surgery?

A breast augmentation procedure may be suitable for you if events in your life such as weight loss, pregnancy or breastfeeding have affected the shape of your breasts.

Breast augmentation surgery is a procedure designed to enhance breast size, shape, and symmetry using implants. A suitable candidate for breast augmentation typically:

Wants to Enhance Breast Volume: Individuals seeking fuller breasts due to naturally small breasts, weight loss, or aging.

Wishes to Restore Breast Shape: Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight changes can impact breast fullness, which augmentation may help restore.

Has Breast Asymmetry: If one breast is noticeably smaller than the other, implants can create a more balanced appearance.

Is in Good General Health: Ideal candidates are non-smokers, at a stable weight, and free from conditions that may affect healing.

Has Realistic Expectations: Understanding the potential outcomes and limitations of surgery is essential for a positive experience.

The most accurate way to determine whether a breast augmentation procedure is appropriate is through a personal consultation with a specialist plastic surgeon. To learn more about breast augmentation surgery, please contact our team to schedule a consultation with our specialist plastic surgeons.

Choosing Breast Implants

Motiva Implants

Dr. Richardson performs breast augmentation mammoplasty in Brisbane using Motiva Implants. Motiva offers over 500 varieties of breast implant gels, breast implant sizes, breast implant shapes, and breast implant profiles. Here at Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery we choose Motiva implants because of their safety and aesthetic profile. Motiva implants in Brisbane, Australia are silicone breast implants and come in varying levels of cohesiveness.

Teardrop Breast Implants

Here at Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, our surgeons do not use any traditional anatomical or teardrop implants due to the risk of visible rotation in the pocket. This is because if a teardrop shape implant rotates, the shape of the breast would distort significantly. Consequently, Motiva implants Australia created a solution to this issue. The product? Motiva Ergonomix. Motiva Ergonomix is a round implant that moulds to the natural shape of the breast to mimic the appearance of a teardrop shaped implant. The benefit of Motiva Ergonomix is that it not only creates a more natural appearance than a teardrop implant, but it also eliminates the risk of visible rotation. This is because if the implant rotates within the pocket, the gel will redistribute automatically.

Motiva Ergonomix is generally recommended to patients seeking a natural look, or a softer feel.

Round Breast Implants

Motiva progressive—otherwise known as Motiva round—is a firmer gel that holds its shape in the breast pocket. This implant gel is more similar to a traditional round implant and can produce a more enhanced appearance for patients. Also, the distribution of gel is more rigid and creates more projection.

Motiva progressive is generally recommended for patients seeking a more noticeable look, or those that would be more anatomically suited to a round breast implant shape.

Breast Implant Sizes – Motiva Implants

Breast implant sizes—referred to as breast implant CCs—are tailored to each patient’s anatomy and goals. Our surgeons have extensive experience choosing implant sizes based on a patient’s breasts and their goals. Breast implant CCs range from 105cc to 5250cc, and will produce vastly different outcomes for different patients, therefore it is important to seek advice from an experienced specialist plastic surgeon to determine the most appropriate implant size for you.

At your initial consultation, your surgeon will be recommend a number of preliminary breast implant sizes to choose from. These breast implant sizes have corresponding trial implants that you will be able to ‘try on’ at your consultation. This approach allows patients to see how certain implant sizes might look in proportion to the rest of their body. Many patients find the implant try-on method helpful in choosing the right breast implant size for them.

Breast Implant Profiles

Breast implant profile refers to the level of projection of a breast implant. There are low profile breast implants (Motiva Mini), moderate profile breast implants (Motiva Demi), high profile breast implants (Motiva Full), and extra-high profile breast implants (Motiva Corsé). Breast implant profiles are a highly misunderstood aspect of breast augmentation mammoplasty and serve a number of purposes. The decision of which breast implant profile is most suitable for the patient will be a unique discussion between the patient and surgeon.

Understanding your

Breast Augmentation Options

Implants

The use of implants in breast augmentation provides a reliable method for increasing breast volume. Implants come in various sizes, shapes, and materials, allowing for a high degree of customisation to achieve the desired alteration.

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer for breast enlargement involves using the patient’s own fat, harvested from another area of the body, to increase breast volume. This method is preferred by patients who do not want to have breast implants. Depending on the amount of available donor fat, it can provide a subtle to moderate increase in breast volume.

Hybrid of Fat and Implants

A hybrid approach combines both implants and fat transfer. This method can be particularly effective for achieving specific aesthetic goals, allowing for customisation in both shape and volume.

Realistic Expectations

Every patient has a unique anatomy, with unique limitations which have a pivotal effect on surgical outcomes. At BPCS, we encourage all patients considering breast augmentation to remember that all surgical procedures are tailored, and specific surgical outcomes are not guaranteed.

Every patient’s body is unique, and surgical outcomes will depend on factors such as anatomy, individual healing processes, and the surgical approach and techniques used. Open and honest communication about desired aesthetic outcomes, along with a clear understanding of the potential benefits and limitations of surgery, are essential to ensure patients are satisfied with their surgical results.

During a consultation, our surgeons aim to provide patients with as much information as possible about their procedure in order set realistic expectations of surgical outcomes, and tailor advice so that patients are able to make informed decisions that align with their health.

Patients are encouraged to remember that there can be no guarantee with any surgery. The realistic aim of any surgical procedure is improvement and not perfection. What to expect from

Your Breast Augmentation Consultation

The consultation is a crucial first step when considering any surgical procedure. It allows you to discuss your goals, concerns, and medical history, ensuring you receive personalised advice tailored to your needs. During your consultation, your surgeon will assess your suitability for the procedure, explain the potential risks and expected outcomes, and provide professional guidance to help you make an informed decision that aligns with your health. A thorough consultation also ensures that you have realistic expectations of surgical outcomes and understand all aspects of your procedure before deciding to proceed with surgery.

Before proceeding with any elective cosmetic procedure, all patients are required to obtain a referral from their GP or specialist, complete a pre-consultation body dysmorphic disorder screening questionnaire, and attend at least two pre-operative consultations.

What is the pre-consultation body dysmorphic disorder screening questionnaire?

It is an AHPRA requirement that all patients considering cosmetic surgery must complete a Body Dysmorphic Disorder questionnaire. This is to determine suitability for surgery and to ensure patients have realistic expectations regarding the outcome of their procedure prior to undergoing surgery.

Initial Consultation (mandatory)

On arrival for your initial consultation at Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, you will be welcomed in-clinic by our patient care team who will assist you with any required pre-consultation paperwork, reports and referrals prior to seeing your surgeon.

During your initial consultation, you will meet with your surgeon to discuss your goals, concerns and motivations for surgery as well as associated risks and realistic outcomes. This consultation gives you an opportunity to learn more about your chosen surgeon and their experience, and get all of your questions answered about what surgical approach is most appropriate for you. Your surgeon will review your medical history and discuss your aesthetic goals, and provide you with comprehensive information about your breast augmentation procedure, including recovery times, and the potential risks and complications associated, and how your surgeon plans to manage these, should any complications arise. Our surgeons seek to understand each patient’s unique lifestyle so that they can tailor a bespoke surgical plan in alignment with your goals to best achieve your desired aesthetic and functional outcomes.

Following your consultation with your surgeon, you will sit down with one of our dedicated patient liaisons, who will help you plan the next steps and answer any additional questions you may have. We will have a chat to you about when you are considering surgery, provide you with your personal quote and go through additional pertinent details of your surgical procedure to assist and ensure you can make an informed decision about surgery.

The rest of the team are here to answer any questions you may have to ensure that you feel comfortable, well-informed and prepared for your breast augmentation procedure.

Subsequent Consultations (required)

A second consultation is required to proceed with breast augmentation surgery as it is considered a cosmetic procedure. A second consultation gives the patient the opportunity to further discuss their surgery, re-try implant sizes and ensure they have been able to have all their questions answered prior to deciding to proceed.

Patients are also welcome and encouraged to book multiple consultations to further discuss their procedure to ensure they feel comfortable and confident in their decision to proceed. It is important to ensure both patient and surgeon are aligned in goals and expectations to ensure positive patient outcomes. Additional consultations for your procedure are at no extra cost and can be conducted face-to-face or online via video call.

To book any additional consultations, please give our clinic a call and our team will be able to accommodate this for you.

Pre-Operative Nurse Appointment (mandatory)

Once a surgery date has been booked, our patient care team will organise your pre-operative appointment, which will be with one of our nurses, and scheduled 2 weeks prior to your booked surgery date. The purpose of this appointment is to run through your surgery plan and take your pre-operative images. It will be another opportunity for you to ask any additional questions you may have leading up to your surgery, as well as complete any necessary paperwork to ensure you are fully prepared for your upcoming procedure with us.

To find out more about what to expect from your breast augmentation consultation or to book an initial consultation, you can submit your enquiry or call our clinic between 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday – Thursday or 8:30am – 4pm Fridays.

Everything you need to know about Breast Augmentation Surgery

Why Choose Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery for your breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation (breast implant surgery) is one of our most commonly performed procedures here at Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery.

Founder and leading specialist plastic surgeon Dr. Philip Richardson is widely recognised for his advanced breast surgery techniques, and his success in complex revisionary cases, and is sought to perform breast augmentation for patients across south-east Queensland and interstate. Dr. Richardson is best known for his caring and honest approach to patient care and is renowned for performing breast surgery in Brisbane.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation mammoplasty is generally a day procedure and involves the insertion of a breast implant through an incision made along the inframammary fold. While some surgeons may choose alternative insertion sites such as placing breast implants through the armpit (axillary) or placement of breast implants through the belly button, these techniques are generally avoided. This is because the risk of infection is higher with these approaches and as a result, not generally recommended by our surgeons.

Breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery places the implant in any of the following positions:

1. Under the muscle breast implant positioning (submuscular)
2. Over the muscle breast implant positioning (subglandular)
3. Dual plane breast implant positioning

There are various pros and cons to each implant position because the best choice for each patient is dependent on anatomical and lifestyle considerations. Your surgeon will assess your anatomy, your surgical goals and your lifestyle with you at your initial consultation in order to determine what breast implant placement is most suitable to achieve your ideal results.

During breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery the patient is placed under general anaesthetic and constantly monitored by the anaesthetist throughout their procedure. Consequently, it is essential that the operation take place in a fully-accredited hospital. This is to ensure access to appropriate facilities in the case of any complications or emergency events. Our surgeons are experienced, specialist plastic surgeons who all have the necessary privileges to operate at fully-accredited Queensland Health hospitals.

It’s extremely important that breast augmentation mammoplasty is performed at a fully-accredited hospital as this is an invasive procedure that carries a number of surgical risks.

The surgery itself involves the placement of the breast implants either behind the breast tissue or under the chest wall muscle. Once inserted, the breast implants will push or help lift the breast tissue forward, making the breasts appear larger and fuller. The entire breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery will take approximately 60-90 minutes, and in most cases, patients will be sent home the same day. When you wake up in recovery, you will have your post-op bra on and will be given some food and time to rest and recover before your carer comes to collect you. Upon your departure, the recovery nurses at the hospital will go through your post-op bag with you. This post-op bag is provided by our team and includes all your medications and a comprehensive post-operative care booklet that serves as your guide to breast augmentation recovery.

Risks & Complications of Breast Augmentation Surgery

As with any surgical procedure, breast augmentation carries potential risks and complications. These may vary depending on individual factors, including overall health, the patient’s healing capacity and adherence to post-operative aftercare, and the surgical approach used. Some potential risks and complications of breast augmentation surgery include:

  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Scarring
  • Anaesthesia risks
  • Implant related issues
  • Breast tissue changes
  • Capsular contracture
  • Changes in nipple or areolar sensation
  • Loss of breast sensation
  • Asymmetry
  • Healing issues (poor wound healing)
  • Unsatisfactory results
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
  • Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
  • Need for revisionary surgery

At Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, we place large emphasis on educating our patients regarding the potential risks of surgery to ensure both patient and surgeon are taking all measures to understand, minimise and prevent complications from occurring.

Breast Augmentation Surgery Recovery

Here at Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, we offer long-term follow-up care and support to ensure we are providing ongoing exceptional care to our patients. Patients are encouraged to contact our experienced team of nurses with any questions, issues or concerns they have at any point in their recovery period and beyond.

Recovery from breast augmentation surgery will vary from patient to patient, and depends on the extent and complexity of the procedure and the patient’s individual healing capacity.

Patients may experience pain, aches, pressure and discomfort, generally lasting up to two weeks after breast augmentation. Pain relief medication can help address discomfort after breast implant surgery, and pain management will be at the discretion of your surgeon and your anaesthetist. Our team will be able to prescribe oral pain medication to assist with any pain and discomfort during recovery.

Patients should allow one to two weeks for recovery after breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery before returning to work. Our nurses will contact patients the day after surgery to make sure there are no complications and will schedule post-operative check-ups at regular intervals post-surgery. A post-operative bra will be provided to patients to wear for the first six weeks to support the breasts and promote healing during the initial recovery period, as well as Dr. Richardson’s scar management cream to assist with scar healing. Additional post-operative bras and post-surgery scar cream can be purchased through our clinic.

It is recommended that patients refrain from driving for at least two weeks after undergoing breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery and avoid engaging in rigorous exercise for at least six weeks.

During recovery, patients will be advised to:

  • Keep the incisions clean and dry
  • Avoid smoking
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Eat nutritious food
  • Refrain from strenuous tasks
  • Take time to rest and recover
  • Avoid underwire bras
  • Avoid lying on your side
  • Wear provided post-operative compression garments as advised

All patients will be provided with specific post-operative aftercare instructions to support healing and recovery, and our team will schedule regular follow-ups monitor recovery and address any concerns. Adherence to appropriate post-surgery care is essential for optimal healing and results.

Breast Augmentation Costs & Payment Options

In order to prepare financially for any surgical procedure, it is essential understand what costs and associated fees may be included in your breast augmentation quote. At Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery we aim to provide patients with clear and concise price breakdowns so patients are fully aware of what is included so they can make informed decisions, and to properly budget and plan ahead.

The cost of breast augmentation at Brisbane Plastic Surgery will typically include your surgeon’s fee, hospital fees, general anaesthetic costs, your breast implants, post-operative compression garments and lifetime follow-up care with our in-house nursing team.

Breast augmentation surgery is a customised procedure, and costs will vary between patients. Every patient is different and surgery prices are quoted on a case-by-case basis subjective to the anatomy and complexities of each case, and time taken in theatre or chosen facility.

Breast augmentation surgery is typically considered a cosmetic procedure therefore there are no Medicare and private health rebates available. For patients undergoing a breast augmentation procedure to correct tuberous breasts or where there is significant asymmetry, Medicare may provide rebates pending eligibility. The total costs of breast augmentation surgery and if you qualify for any rebates will be discussed with you at your consultation.

Breast Implant Safety

All surgical procedures carry risks and potential complications. All patients should be aware and informed of these risks prior to booking an appointment and acknowledge these risks prior to undergoing surgery. At Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, we want to ensure that every patient has knowledge of breast implants safety and the risks associated with undergoing breast augmentation.

There are risks that are both related to general surgical procedures, as well as specific breast augmentation mammoplasty risks.

Some risks of general surgical procedures include:

  • Bleeding and haematoma
  • Wound separation or delayed healing
  • Inflammation and infection
  • Sore throat
  • Painful or infected intravenous line site
  • Other anaesthetic complications
  • Sensitivity or allergy to dressings and tape
  • Scarring
  • Unsatisfactory result
  • Asymmetry
  • Post-operative fatigue/depression
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Allergic reaction
  • Chronic pain
  • Stroke, heart attack, cardiac arrhythmias

All of these complications can occur, however they are very rare in otherwise fit and healthy patients. For instance, the risk of wound separation and delayed healing is more prominent for patients who are smokers. Also, patients with an unhealthy BMI which is either too low or high will also be at higher risk. In addition to the general risks of surgical procedures are the specific breast implant risks.

Breast Implant Risks

  • Implant malposition
  • Double bubble
  • Capsular contracture
  • Calcium deposit in the capsule
  • Fluid accumulation around the implant
  • Altered nipple sensation
  • Thrombosis of veins within the breast
  • Leakage of implants
  • Granuloma
  • Implant extrusion
  • Skin wrinkling or rippling
  • Pneumothorax
  • Infection
  • Palpability
  • Long-term results
  • Interference with mammography
  • ALCL

These complications are rare, however it is important that patients understand each one and can identify symptoms. Patients with breast implants should stay on top of their routine check-ups and ultrasounds. Here at Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery we make this easy because we offer a lifetime follow-up guarantee. This guarantee provides patients with entirely bulk-billed breast implant reviews, forever. We actively follow-up our patients yearly to book these appointments so you never have to worry. Why do we provide this service? Because we want to ensure our patients are supported throughout their entire journey, and far into the future.

Breast Implant Illness: Breast Implant Risks

Some women are concerned about breast implant risks and breast implant safety due to the rise in reports of “breast implant illness”. Because the scientific evidence is currently limited surrounding the existence of any implant-related illness, we know very little about this phenomena. Current anecdotal evidence cites an extremely broad range of general symptoms that cannot be attributed to breast implants, however further research is being done in this field. As a result, here at the clinic we are open to discussion regarding breast implant illness and some of the common symptoms cited by a number of women across the globe. We aim to provide you with a balanced view of the scientific evidence and the public discussion surrounding this topic.

To conclude, there are numerous risks to be aware of when it comes to breast augmentation mammoplasty. Firstly, you should consider the general surgical risks. Then, patients should consider the breast implant-specific complications. Learning about breast implants safety is the first step to a positive experience, and we strive to help all of our patients become experts on the topic.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does breast implant surgery take?

The breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery takes approximately 1–1.5 hours on the operating table, with a total of around 4-5 hours between admission, recovery and hospital discharge for the patient.

What is an internal bra?

Internal bra is a surgical technique that involves the reinforcement of the lower-pole of the breast to prevent implant displacement and bottoming-out. The technique is called the internal bra because it provides additional lift and support. Patients undergoing breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery in Brisbane with Dr. Richardson will have the internal bra technique performed during their breast augmentation mammoplasty procedure.

How long until I can go swimming after breast implant surgery?

As a general guide, patients are able to submerge themselves in the pool or ocean two weeks after breast augmentation but should avoid actual swimming or going into any deep waters until at least six weeks post-operatively.

Patients are encouraged to seek individual advice based on their healing and recovery with our nursing team.

How painful is breast augmentation mammoplasty recovery?

A common question we receive at Brisbane Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery is how painful is breast augmentation mammoplasty recovery is. The general consensus among patients who have had breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery is that pain is far more manageable than expected.

The degree and longevity of pain patients may experience following breast augmentation surgery will vary from patient to patient, and depends on the extent and complexity of the procedure and the patient’s individual tolerance to pain. Patients may experience pain, aches, pressure and discomfort, generally lasting up to two weeks after breast implant surgery.

The post-operative feeling can be explained as a tightness and weight on the chest but actual pain associated with surgery is generally minimal—especially when patients are on top of the recommended course of painkillers and are able to wean off these medications early on.

How long until I can get back to the gym after breast implant surgery?

Patients undergoing breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery are advised to proceed with caution when returning to the gym. The main consideration for patients wanting to get back to the gym is you should not engage in any physical activity that significantly elevates your heart rate for the first six weeks after surgery. This is to ensure the safety of the patient and optimal healing. After one week patients are able to return to light walking around the block at very manageable pace. At three weeks patients are able to go back to the gym and resume light lower body exercise-nothing that engages the upper body. From six weeks patients can return to any and all normal exercise including weightlifting.

Full clearance for return to Patients are encouraged to seek individual advice based on their healing and recovery with our nursing team.

What breast implants does Dr. Richardson use for breast augmentation?

Dr. Richardson recommends Motiva implants to nearly all of his patients. These are smooth surface, silicone gel implants that come in a large variety of sizes and profiles to cater to the needs of every woman. The main advantage of Motiva breast implants when compared to other brands, is from a safety perspective. The capsular contracture rate for Motiva is less than 1%, and with a smooth surface, there is no cited link between these implants and ALCL, which is a concern associated with textured implants. The second advantage is from an aesthetic perspective.

Motiva provides over 500 breast implant shape, sizes, and profiles to create either more noticeable or more subtle looking breasts according to your preference. Each implant moulds to the natural shape of the breast, and can provide lower and upper pole fullness dependant on the patient’s desires.

How long is breast augmentation mammoplasty recovery?

Full recovery from breast augmentation mammoplasty is six weeks. Full recovery refers to returning to all normal activities including weightlifting, running, and intensive physical activity. Patients should allow at least six weeks before getting back into anything that is physically intensive. This being said, most patients are feeling relatively normal after one week and can return to most light activities and day-to-day functions.
